The Ohio Lambda chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at Kent State University on April 25th, 1953, and has continued to enrich the Kent community ever since. Today, our chapter leads the way for Kent's Greek community in multiple areas, including academics and campus involvement.
Kent State's chapter of SigEp has continually established itself as a leader when it comes to grades, which it demonstrated by achieving the highest GPA among the university's 22 fraternities in the spring of 2018. The chapter's 3.26 average GPA also far surpasses the benchmark of 2.95, the average GPA among all male Kent State students. This high GPA illustrates Ohio Lambda's exceptional commitment to academic success and its culture of diligence, which is one of SigEp's 3 cardinal virtues.
SigEp's Ohio Lambda chapter also distinguished itself as a chapter of promising young leaders. For example, our chapter currently provides 3 members of KSU's Undergraduate Student Government, including the body's President, Thomas Watral. Yet our Balanced Men have not only contributed their talents to Kent's student government; they have also helped us to establish positive relations with other Greek organizations on Kent's campus. During the fall of 2019, our brothers Dylan Berkshire and Donald Wolford were respectively named "Xi Man" and "Greatest Man" by Alpha Xi Delta and Sigma Delta Tau, two of Kent State's larger sororities.
Going forward, the brothers of SigEp at Kent State hope to develop our chapter into one of the most successful fraternity chapters in the country. Although this task will not be easy, recent growth in membership, continually-high academic performance, and a renewed focus on alumni outreach have convinced us that we can achieve our goal.
To any current or future college students considering membership in Sigma Phi Epsilon, we hope you will accept the call to join the nation's largest brotherhood and to become a Balanced Man, one dedicated to a life of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. Our fraternity was founded upon the notion that "This fraternity will be different" and now it is up to you to ensure that our tradition of excellence continues.
