On Friday, March 15th, SigEp’s Kent State chapter hosted its annual philanthropy, an event which was held inside the university’s impressive Fieldhouse this year. The event helped raise money and awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a nonprofit organization which aims to reduce suicide deaths through research, advocacy, and public policy. Our chapter’s VP of Programming, Thomas Niepsuj, helped organize a kickball tournament and an official “Out of the Darkness Walk” to benefit the organization.
In the end, 8 other fraternities and sororities officially participated in the activities, while SigEp alumni and members of non-participating Greek organizations also came out to support the cause. One noteworthy guest was Matti-Lynn Chrisman, a passionate advocate for mental health and suicide prevention who currently holds the title of “Miss Ohio”. Our chapter was very grateful for her support and we wish her the best of luck as she competes for the title of “Miss America” this September!
In total, the chapter’s efforts helped to raise approximately $2,000 for AFSP this year! We’d like to thank everyone who contributed and we look forward to beating our record next year!
